Adventure 1 - Hiking, ok so we cheated and took the bus half way up the hill, but it was still a solid 2 hour hike through the forest near Liestal. We discovered old bunkers that were built as look out posts during world war 1, then climbed to the top of an observation tower right at the peak for some great views across Switzerland and Germany.
After our mega day on the mountain we needed a day of rest, especially seeing as Jeff and Lea were returning that evening, which was kicking off a whole host of new adventures! On the way backdown we still had just enough energy to hit the playground for some fun on the flying fox!

This post finds us exploring Switzerland where we stayed in Liestal, just outside of Basel in Clair's cousins apartment, thanks again Jeff and Lea! Between Brighton and Switzerland we managed a quick drop in on some old friends from Singapore, who again we hadn't seen for years! It was excellent to catch up and meet their son Jack, who had also just celebrated a birthday, a few snags on the barbie, a game of football, a glass of bubbles with some minecraft birthday cake, then of course a bundle, was the perfect way to catch up! Thanks guys, was so great to see you and can't wait till the next time! Getting to Basel was an early affair, we were up at 4am to leave Rayleigh in Essex and arrived at Gatwick at 5.45am for our 8.10 am flight, needless to say we were all a little tired by the time we arrived. Jeffs friend Howard met us from the bus at the train station and then selflessly shepherded us onto the train to Liestal, walked us to the apartment and gave us a full run down of how everything worked, he then offered to show us Basel the next day, what a top bloke! Not a Photo Bomb..........that's Howard!
He walked us around the main sights and threw in a boat trip across the Rhine too, after an hour or so he had to go to work, or......b) was over the kids ; ) |
