Happy New Year everybody! Since our last blog update we have travelled from Thailand via Singapore to England where we have now stayed in Essex, Dorset and Suffolk and are due next in Norfolk as we explore as much as we can of our home country. We spent the first week of the New Year in Amsterdam on a home swap and caught up with some old friends and spent time walking the canals, ice skating and visiting museums. Our National Trust membership has taken another beating as we have visited numerous properties ranging from castles to famous authors houses to stone monuments built between 2000-3000 BC and grand privately owned estates left in the trusts capable hands. We have hiked along Britain’s Jurassic coast and even visited Santa before spending Christmas and New Year in the homes of our families. This was our first English Christmas for 14 years and of course the first one ever for the kids. As much as they have prayed for the picture perfect snow scene the weather has been kind and unseasonably mild. Yes, global warming is real ;) 2015 for us was a year we will surely never forget. We visited 9 different countries across 4 continents all via home swapping or home sitting, or even working for accommodation. I think we have paid for accommodation just a handful of times when we just couldn’t find a swap, a sit or any of our amazing friends in the area in which we were visiting. Along the way we met some of the most amazingly kind and genuine people, were lucky enough to visit old friends in their home countries or countries in which they have relocated to and even managed to celebrate special occasions such as milestone birthdays and weddings. Yes 2015 was a special one to say the very least, it was a year of complete travel, a total adventure and the most amazing fun. We watch the kids grow each day into caring, engaging, grounded and well behaved mini people and are profoundly proud of the way they have handled every step of every journey we have taken. They show eagerness to learn and meet new people from any walk of life and have loved being around extended family on visits to England.
