Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn.

I’d heard a lot about this book and movie - good and bad, which interested me enough to want to read it and find out what it was all about. I knew that I wanted to read the book first as I knew that the book would be spoilt if I had seen the movie already (as it so often is), but now having read the book, I’m excited to watch the movie with a glass of vino or two.
I really enjoyed reading this ‘who done it’, but wished that I had the luxury of reading it in just one sitting, as it was just so captivating. To begin with, I had no idea what the story was about except that a wife that goes missing, but didn’t know the circumstances behind the disappearance. The story is very different from other thrillers that I have read, it’s well written and is an ingeniously paced suspense thriller.
As I said this story is set up as a simple tale of girl who goes missing, a wife that disappears from her home on her fifth wedding anniversary, with what looks like signs of a struggle. Naturally, the police and public start to thing that the husband is responsible for her abduction and potentially, her murder. The story twists and turns and becomes an intense dissection of a rather toxic marriage. One version of events hides another in a way that cleverly manipulates the reader. The story is so cleverly interwoven and expertly written to play with your mind that you are constantly questioning who did it and why?
Overall, I found the book captivating and very easy to read (which is a bonus when you are often interrupted by at least one child) and quite amusing at times. A really good psychological thriller.
Gillian Flynn is an amazing writer, who expertly plays with her readers. Now having read the book I’m excited to see the movie some time soon!
